What I won't be buying (comics for June)

Two weeks ago my store credit ran out, although I have some joint store credit with the wife after trading in the bulk of my JSA run and her Batman "Hush" issues. Conservation is at an all-time high and so I've pared back most of what I'm buying to finishing off mini-series and storylines. So for the first time I've come to realize that most of what's in my two-months-in-advance look at what's coming out I won't actually be acquiring. It's both saddening and liberating, in a sense.

Image

WAR HEROES #1 (OF 6) - Mark Millar: meh. Tony Harris: yay! I'm divided.

TRANSHUMAN #4 (of 4), A RED MASS FOR MARS #1 (of 4) - Jonathan Hickman has been tickling that pleasure center in my brain so nicely with Nightly News and Pax Romana, and from what I've seen of this, it's more fun for my fancy.

DISPLACED PERSONS OGN, TALES OF THE STARLIGHT DRIVE-IN OGN - two intriguing original graphic novels I'll have to keep an eye out for some other time

GIMOLES TP - from the creator of Lions, Tigers and Bears... should be some solid all-ages stuff.

SCUD THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN: THE WHOLE SHEBANG! TP - ah yes, there's the stuff. 764 pages for $20. BINGO!

Marvel

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #561 - even though I'm not a Spider-man fan by any respect, I think Dan Slott's the perfect talent to write him. I'll watch for the trades in '09.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #39 - Two Captain Americas? What the...?

DAREDEVIL #108 - Brubaker is awesome, but Brubaker + Rucka = must read. Again, watching out for this in trade (as soon as I finish my pre-Brubaker DD trade collection)

IMMORTAL IRON FIST #16 - movie poster-style covers, neat.

ETERNALS #1 - never cared about the characters, don't know the writers at all, and sometimes Daniel Acuna's art is difficult to process, but I'm for some reason curious. Maybe I should start with ETERNALS BY NEIL GAIMAN TPB (and if I like that there's also ETERNALS BY JACK KIRBY BOOK 1 TPB this month)

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #2/ NOVA #14 - when BNY is over I'm going to have some catching up to do with Marvel's galactic heroes... depending on how frustrating the last issue of Conquest is, bleh.

IRON MAN: VIVA LAS VEGAS #2 (of 4) - From the Iron Man movie creative team of Jon Favreau and awesome Adi Granov.

MARVEL 1985 #2 (of 6) - Mark Millar: meh. Tommy Lee Edwards: yay. I'm divided.

CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI: 13 #2 - England v. Skrulls. Erm... why was I excited about this last month again?

ASTONISHING X-MEN VOL. 4: UNSTOPPABLE TPB - the final Whedon/Cassaday arc in paperback.... FINALLY!

SILVER SURFER: IN THY NAME TPB - I love Simon Spurrier's Gutsville and Tan Eng Huat's Doom Patrol was a good looking book (and also a lot of fun), but meh... wonder if the old Roomie picked this up.

DC

FINAL CRISIS #2 - gimme gimme gimme.

REIGN IN HELL #1/DC/WILDSTORM: DREAMWAR #3 - the Keith Giffen and DC geek in me says yes, but the cash-strapped, frustrated-with-DC-editorial fanboy-rampager in me says nay.

TEEN TITANS: YEAR ONE #6 (of 6) - this book, awesome.

BATMAN #678 - Batman RIP... still intrigued.

SUPERMAN #677 - James Robinson's back in the comics fold, big time, with art by the spectacular Renato Guedes... sign me up... erm, next year.

BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #18 - Batgirl by Kevin Maguire. Yay.

BOOSTER GOLD #10, ACTION COMICS #866, BLUE BEETLE #28, EX MACHINA #37, 100 BULLETS #92 - when BNY is over I'm going to have some catching up to do

THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #14 - George Perez is followed up by... Scott Kolins? Boo.

THE NEW YORK FOUR - a Minx book by Local's team of Brian Wood and Ryan Kelly. Thanks, DC!

DMZ VOL. 5: THE HIDDEN WAR TP - also need to buy: DMZ Vol 1 - 4.

Dark Horse

ABE SAPIEN: THE DROWNING #5 (of 5), B.P.R.D.: THE ECTOPLASMIC MAN, B.P.R.D.: WAR ON FROGS #1, LOBSTER JOHNSON VOLUME 1: THE IRON PROMETHEUS - You know, I'm about 5 years removed since I've bought any Hellboy or derivative title and I really really feel deprived. With the Hellboy II movie out this summer it'll be a nice way to ease me back into one of the coolest comic book series ever.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: SEASON 8 #15 - I still need to watch season 7, but I'm truly enjoying Season 8

HELP IS ON THE WAY: A COLLECTION OF BASIC INSTRUCTIONS - sounds like fun

THE MASK OMNIBUS VOLUME 1 - okay, I don't need this since I have all the issues but this is some gloriously twisted stuff only a smidgeon of which made it into the film.

PIGEONS FROM HELL #3 (of 4) - really? I mean, yeah, come on. Joe R. Lansdale is a weird, weird man
